What are open-ended funds?

An open-ended fund is a mutual fund category that doesn't have any constraints on the issuance of new shares. When investors purchase shares, the fund creates new ones, and when they sell, the fund removes them from circulation. These shares are bought and sold based on the current net asset value (NAV) of the fund, which is calculated at the end of each trading day and is based on the underlying securities' value.
