What are the pre-market and post-market sessions?

The pre-opening session takes place right before the market opens. NSE conducts it between 9 am to 9.15 am.  It began to curb the volatility of securities in the everyday market opening. 
The session consists of 15 minutes, is divided as under-
  • 8 minutes of placing an order 

  • 4 minutes of price discovery 

  • 3 minutes for order execution

Post-market sessions, as the same suggests are only reserved for equity markets. The session runs from 3:40 pm to 4:00 pm. Here you can execute your trades at the closing price determined after the market was closed.
